These notes explain how ShutterLife works and the limits of its use. They are provided for transparency; they are not terms you have to accept and do not form a contract.
Description
ShutterLife is a camera shutter count reader for photographers. It reads EXIF data from camera images (RAW and JPEG) to display the number of shutter actuations and, where the manufacturer states a tested minimum threshold and the counter tracks actuations, relate them to it. Available for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Use of the App

Accuracy Disclaimer
Shutter count readings are extracted from image EXIF metadata and camera manufacturer data. While we strive for accuracy, readings may vary depending on camera model, firmware version, and image format. Where a percentage is shown, it refers to the manufacturer's tested minimum threshold for the shutter. It is not a prediction of remaining life: shutters typically run well beyond the tested threshold. ShutterLife does not guarantee the accuracy of any reading or estimate.
No Data Collection
ShutterLife operates entirely offline. The app does not collect, transmit, or store any data on external servers; all processing happens on your device. If you email us support requests or photos yourself, the Privacy Policy applies to those.
Copyright
The app, its design, code, and content are protected by copyright and owned by the developer. Your statutory rights of use, in particular under Sections 69d, 69e of the German Copyright Act (UrhG), remain unaffected.
Purchases and Liability
Apple designates Apple Distribution International Ltd. (Cork, Ireland) as the "merchant of record" for EU distribution in the Apple Developer Program License Agreement and the Apple Media Services Terms. Warranty and defect claims under sales law (Sections 327 et seq. of the German Civil Code, BGB) may therefore generally be brought against Apple Distribution International Ltd. Any statutory claims that may exist directly against the developer remain unaffected. In that case, please use the contact details stated in the Legal Notice.
ShutterLife strives for the accuracy of the displayed shutter count values. Values may vary depending on camera model, firmware version, and image format; any percentage shown refers to the manufacturer's tested minimum threshold and says nothing about remaining life.
To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from the use of the app, including decisions made based on shutter count readings. Liability for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, and for the breach of essential contractual obligations (cardinal obligations) remains unaffected.
Updates
We provide updates that keep ShutterLife functional and secure. This covers adapting the app to new major iOS and macOS releases and fixing defects that impair reading the shutter count. It does not cover new features or the addition of new camera models. Your statutory rights under sections 327 et seq. of the German Civil Code remain unaffected.
