Which cameras are supported?

ShutterLife supports camera models from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Pentax, Leica and Ricoh. The shutter count is read from the EXIF metadata embedded in your photos (RAW, HEIF or JPEG).

Why doesn't my camera show a shutter count?

Not every camera writes the shutter count into the image. The ones that don't are mainly DSLRs from Canon and Sony (for example the EOS 5D Mark IV or the Alpha 68), smartphones, most compact cameras, and the Leica M series. The mirrorless models from both brands are read fine. Try a RAW file instead of a JPEG: RAW files often carry more metadata.

How accurate is the shutter count?

ShutterLife reads the shutter count directly from your camera's EXIF data. The value is what your camera wrote into the image file. The percentage next to it refers to the manufacturer's tested minimum threshold for the shutter: it says how much of that threshold has been reached, and it is not a prediction of remaining life.

Which file formats are supported?

ShutterLife supports CR2, CR3 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), RAF (Fujifilm), PEF (Pentax), DNG (Leica, Ricoh), HEIC, HEIF, HIF, and JPEG files.

Does ShutterLife need an internet connection?

No. ShutterLife works 100% offline: the app sends nothing to any server, and all processing happens on your device. If you email us a support request or a photo yourself, our privacy policy covers that.

What does "Edited image detected" mean?

ShutterLife checks if an image has been processed by software like Lightroom, Photoshop, or other editors. Edited images may have altered EXIF data, which can affect the accuracy of the shutter count reading. For the most reliable results, use an unedited image straight from the camera.

How do I delete my reading history?

Go to the History section in the app and use "Delete All" to remove all saved readings. Individual readings can also be deleted by swiping.
