Which cameras are supported?

ShutterLife supports camera models from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Pentax, Leica and Ricoh. The shutter count is read from the EXIF metadata embedded in your photos (RAW or JPEG).

Why doesn't my camera show a shutter count?

Not every camera writes the shutter count into the image. The ones that don't are mainly DSLRs from Canon and Sony (for example the EOS 5D Mark IV or the Alpha 68), smartphones, most compact cameras, and the Leica M series. Some of the mirrorless models from both brands are covered; the list above is what counts. Try a RAW file instead of a JPEG: RAW files often carry more metadata.

How accurate is the shutter count?

ShutterLife reads the shutter count directly from your camera's EXIF data. The value is what your camera wrote into the image file. On the Canon EOS RP and R7 in HDR mode, the app adds the measured difference and marks it. Where ShutterLife shows a percentage next to it, that percentage refers to the manufacturer's tested minimum threshold for the shutter: it says how much of that threshold has been reached, and it is not a prediction of remaining life. Not every model has such a figure.

Which file formats are supported?

ShutterLife supports CR2, CR3 (Canon), NEF (Nikon), ARW (Sony), RAF (Fujifilm), PEF (Pentax), DNG (Leica, Ricoh), HEIC, HEIF, HIF, and JPEG files.

Does ShutterLife need an internet connection?

No. ShutterLife works 100% offline: the app sends nothing to any server, and all processing happens on your device. If you email us a support request or a photo yourself, our privacy policy covers that.

What does "Editing software recorded in this file" mean?

ShutterLife shows this message when the file's software field names an image editor such as Lightroom or Photoshop. For such files the app shows no shutter count, because editing software can overwrite or drop the original counter data. Use the unedited original straight from the camera.

How do I delete my reading history?

Go to the History section in the app and use "Delete All" to remove all saved readings. Individual readings can also be deleted by swiping.
